Garissa Township MP Aden Duale had expected embattled IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati to resign from his position as the electoral agency's head immediately after three commissioners at IEBC left office.
Duale on Tuesday said Chebukati has no option but to resign from the electoral body to pave way for the constitution of a fresh team that will manage the State agency ahead of the 2022 general election.
He said the resignation of Consolata Nkatha Maina (vice chair), Paul Kurgat, and Margaret Mwachanya was an indicator that the IEBC can no longer be entrusted with the mandate of managing election internal wrangles between and among commissioners.
"He should have resigned less than a day after the three commissioners opted to leave office," Duale, who is parliament's Majority Leader said.
Ms Maina, Kurgat and Mwachanya officially resigned form IEBC on Monday after IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba was sent on compulsory leave.
The three commissioners who resigned are claimed to against Chiloba's forced leave. Chebukati has remained in office with only two commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu.
The first to leave office was Roslyn Akombe who quit work as the country prepared to go for the repeat election on October 26. She is currently in the US.
Chebukati insists he will not resign.
