National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said the amendments to the electoral laws shall take effect beginning Friday despite President Uhuru Kenyatta not assenting to them.
In an interview with The Star Newspaper, the Garissa Township MP noted that the controversial laws will come into force immediately after the Thursday polls.
He noted that this will be the case as 14 days will have lapsed since the legislation was unanimously approved by both Houses of Parliament.
"The President must be listening to many Kenyans and our friends. We, the legislators have done out bit," he remarked.
"He has until October 27 to make the decision, including returning the Bill to Parliament with a memorandum proposing changes on some clauses," he added.
The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2017 was passed amid Opposition from NASA legislators who did not take part in the process.
