Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has said Jubilee Party will try to reach out to the opposition and unite the country.
This comes amid talks of the ruling party hoping to take advantage of infighting within the NASA coalition and ‘poach’ some leaders.
“Jubilee Party will reach out to like-minded leaders across the country, Nasa being one of them, to unite the country after the deeply divisive elections,” Mr. Duale is quoted saying by the Nation.
He insisted they want to have a vibrant opposition, therefore did not have plans of ‘dismantling’ NASA.
He said: “We have no intention of weakening the Opposition. We want a vibrant Opposition so that we can take on each other on issues that will make this country grow.”
However, NASA is on the rocks at the moment, with disgruntled MPs claiming of a shortchange within the party.
Led by Coast leaders and their counterparts from Western Kenya, the leaders claim allocation of positions in the both the Assembly and the Senate have not been fair.
This has threatened to tear the coalition apart, coming only days after President Kenyatta was sworn in.
ANC leaders want the position of Deputy Minority leader in parliament, a position that has been given to Robert Mbui of Wiper Party.
Coastal leaders are also lamenting over the Minority Chief Whip post, which was given to the region in the last House but has now gone to Suna East Junet Mohamed of ODM.
There is talk that the NASA coalition, which comprises of ANC, Ford-Kenya, and Wiper will be split, which will see the end of the opposition coalition that challenged president Kenyatta in the last elections.
