The petition, which was fronted by a Mohammed Sheikh from Wajir County, seeks to amend the Constitution to bar Kenyans above 70 years from contesting for the nation’s top seat.

The petition is likely to see NASA leader Raila Amolo Odinga from contesting for the nation’s seat in 2022. The Garissa lawmaker said that the bill is not right for this nation.

“I agree with members that this is not a good petition. It is misplaced. But we should not demean petitioners. Let us not scare Kenyans who are constitutionally granted the right to approach this House on any matter.

This petition needs to be given a good time and good consideration,” said Duale.

Duale’s sentiments were backed by Endebess MP Robert Pukose who said that the petition will be a waste of time.

“This motion will only be a waste of Parliament time. It is in bad faith and a mischievous way to lock out one Kenyan from seeking the presidency,” he stated.
