The National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale has rubbished claims that there is bad blood between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
There have been media reports indicating the existence of factions in the ruling party following the handshake between the President and opposition leader Raila Odinga on March 9.
The story carried by a local daily claimed Ruto’s allies were fighting for space in the government following the accommodation of the ODM leader whom they see as a threat to their man’s 2022 presidential ambition.
Ruto handlers, the report read, were contemplating to take the war to President Kenyatta’s doorstep for purportedly letting loose Raila after the truce.
“We have been monitoring events as they unfold, it will be premature to engage politically at this moment, but by saying no to constitution referendum is [a] way of sending a message we are prepared for a brutal phase ahead,” an MP from Rift valley - a close ally of Ruto told Saturday Nation.
But Duale dismissed the remarks saying all was well between the President and his deputy who was determined to help his boss deliver on his Big Four agenda.
“He (Ruto) has and will remain loyal to President Kenyatta until he clears his term,” he said.
The Garissa Township MP said the DP was banking on his cordial relationship with the President to be a campaign tool in 2022 the polls.
“Through Ruto, Kenya can learn two lessons; that a son of a common man can rise to any heights and also that politics of loyalty pays,” Duale said speaking to the Standard on Sunday.
Speaking during Devolution Conference in Kakamega County last week, Ruto said it was not a sign of weakness for deputies to support their bosses.
“As a deputy myself I have some advice for my colleagues–Deputy Governors–it is a difficult job, you have to balance between your ambition and serving your boss,” he noted.
