The teachers have been pushing for redeployment citing insecurity following a recent terrorist attack that left three tutors dead in Qarsa, Wajir county.

However, speaking during the North Eastern Leaders Forum at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi Friday, a convention aimed at solving the crisis, the Garissa township Member of Parliament called for calm among the teachers.

''The narrative of local and non-local teachers or workers in Northern Kenya is neither here nor there. It's dividing Kenyans at a time when the government is trying to unite the country. We should not divide our people,'' Duale tweeted.

He further stressed on the need for improvement of education facilities in the region, noting that the same will go a long way in improving the lives of residents..

''Education is a right and there is a need to streamline the sector for the greater benefit of the children in Northern Kenya,'' he added.

The forum was chaired by Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and attended by education stakeholders including representatives from the North Eastern Professional Association (NEPA).
