National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has urged National Super Alliance (NASA) to issue passports to its citizens through their People's Assembly.

Duale through his twitter account urged NASA's Peoples Assembly to provide its residents with legal passports so that they can travel around after government suspended passports for some of its leaders.

“So called people's government to issue its citizens with legally binding passports” Duale posted.

Duale’s remarks came after the government suspended passports for at least 14 NASA officials.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Siaya Senator James Orengo and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama are among NASA politicians whose passports have been suspended.

In a letter addressed to the leaders, Director of Immigration Gordon Kihalang’wa said the revocation of the passports was done in line with Citizen and Immigration Act 2011.

All those affected have already received letters from the department directing them to surrender the travel documents within 21 days.

The government has intensified crackdown on NASA leaders following a move to ‘swear in’ the opposition leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’ on January 30, 2018.
