National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has castigated Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko over his ‘acting president’ remarks.
According to citizentv.co.ke, Duale said Sonko’s remarks were unconstitutional, adding that he cannot be bestowed with the position even in the absence of both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Constitutionally, the Speaker of the national Assembly holds the brief for the president in the event both him and his deputy are out of the country.
The Garissa Township MP made the remarks in Kikuyu during the homecoming ceremony of area MP Kimani Ichung’wa.
During the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti on Friday last week, the Nairobi Senator said: "Rais Uhuru is in Togo, DP William Ruto ako France I am number three in command politically and socially. I am now the acting president of the republic of Kenya," he said.
"All these police officers and vehicles you see are here because am now the acting President," he added.
On Sunday, Sonko recorded a statement with the police at DCI headquarters over the remark where he spent two hours before leaving at about 8pm.
