Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale has threatened to storm the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) offices in Nairobi to protest the recent transfer of teachers who are not natives of North Eastern region over terror attacks.
Duale said on Friday that admission by TSC that the teachers who do not come from Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa deserve to be transferred to schools located in the region's urban centres was an indicator that Al-Shabaab had won their war against the Kenyan government.
He said at Parliament buildings that he will, on Monday, lead a team of MPs from North Eastern to the TSC offices to demand that the transfers be stopped "with immediate effect".
"North Eastern region is part of Kenya and all Kenyans have the right to be deployed to work in every corner of the country," the Garissa Township MP said.
"North Eastern region is not a preserve of specific communities in the country. Transferring teachers from schools there is an admission that Al-Shabaab is in control of the region."
He spoke eight days after suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed a school in Wajir and killed three teachers who are not natives of the volatile region.
TSC following the attack ordered County Education officials in Wajir Mandera and Garissa to transfer teachers who do not come from the region to school located in urban areas to limit attacks on them.
