Majority Leader MP Aden Duale has urged Justice David Maraga to respect all arms of the government once his nomination is approved by the president.
He also assured him of Jubilee members' support when his name is forwarded to parliament. Speaking at Nursing Home Grounds, Garissa Township constituency while addressing local leaders and residents, Duale expressed his confidence in Maraga's nomination to take over from Willy Mutanga, who retired in June 2016.
"When his name will be forwarded to Parliament, we will support him as members of Jubilee coalition," Duale said.
Maraga emerged as the best candidate with 84 marks after trouncing Smoking Wanjala and Makau Mutua.
Different groups including civil societies have expressed fear that the new chief justice will not fit in the shoes of Mutunga. These groups have claimed that part of the scheme is interfering with the independence of different government institutions, which will hamper the nation's dream of achieving vision 2030.
The groups also alleged that the nomination of Justice Maraga was meant to tame the opposition, while at the same time taming the interests of the executive during the upcoming general.
Considering what took place during the disputed last general elections, the position of Chief justice plays an immense role when it comes to power succession.
