Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has rubbished claims by a section of politicians in the constituency that he is influencing the recruitment of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) election officers in Garissa.
Duale says that claims being peddled by opponents that he is interfering with the hiring of IEBC election officers are false and meant to tarnish his name ahead of the August 8 polls.
In an interview with a local daily, Duale said that his rivals have sensed defeat and wants to spoil his re-election bid. The National Assembly leader of Majority specifically accused former National Assembly deputy speaker Farah Maalim of spreading propaganda against him.
Duale alleged that Maalim has been feeding locals with malicious information against him to woo them for votes.
“I want to tell Maalim and others who are spreading propaganda against me that they will not succeed in pushing me out of the race the August polls,” he said.
Duale claimed that Maalim has no numbers to send him packing in the August polls. The Garissa Town MP also said that the former Deputy speaker has no agenda for Garissa people.
“I want to assure them (rivals) that I will beat them by a huge margin, because they don’t have numbers to challenge my re-election bid,” he added.
Duale cautioned locals against listening to propagandists who have no agenda for the people.
Maalim is seeking to unseat Duale in the August polls on a Wiper Party ticket. The former deputy speaker has since asked Duale to prepare for a humiliating defeat accusing him of failing to push local’s interests in the National Assembly.
