National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has called on the youth from Kamukunji and Kenya as a whole to shun drugs and criminal gangs.

Duale made the remarks during the Firi Business and Cultural expo festival held at Eastleigh High School, Nairobi on Saturday.

Through a message shared on his official Twitter handle, the legislator further reiterated that it is important to protect family values that do not offend the Islamic religion. 

"I asked the youths in Kamukunji and Kenya in general to avoid indulging in drugs and criminal gangs. Many thanks to the organizers, sponsors and area leaders led by Hon. Yusuf Hasan for Organising a great festival," reiterated Duale.

He added, "It is important to protect family values through songs, poetry, dance, attires and food. We need to maintain only those cultural values that don’t offend the Islamic Religion."

Duale also urged the Somali community to preserve their culture insisting that the two are the foundation of any community.

The one-day event was organised to celebrate the cultural diversity of the area.

Among the activities to be held during the festival include cultural dances and poems from both Somalis and non-Somali communities.

The event has been sponsored by Safaricom, Kenya Power, Gulf African Bank, Nairobi County, among others.
