Duale, who also doubles as Garissa town MP has been at loggerhead with chief opposition leaders and has often been used by President Uhuru Kenyatta to respond to opposition leader Raila Odinga persistent criticism on national government.

He will be defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket and would face former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim.

"The ODM party leader will pitch tent in Garissa County on Thursday where he will inspect voter register before holding a mega rally," read a statement from ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani.

On Saturday, opposition team backed Maalim's bid adding that he was 'medicine' for 'troublesome' Duale.

"This is Farah Maalim and is our medicine for this Duale. He will deliver the seat as early as expected," said Governor Isaac Ruto.

Duale is being investigated by the Director of Public Persecutions over an incriminating audio that went viral online.
