The National Assembly Majority Leader was defending his seat on the Jubilee ticket, while Maalim was seeking to unseat him on a Wiper Party ticket.

Duale was on Wednesday evening declared the winner, garnering 22,587 votes against Maalim’s 14,897 votes.

ANC’s Abdi Yare scored 454 votes, with Aden Mohamed having a paltry 135 votes.

Constituency Returning Officer Boru Duba presented Duale with his certificate at the constituency tallying hall, where a buoyant Duale addressed a crowd of his supporters.

He thanked his supporters for re-electing him for a third time in a row, saying they trust his leadership.

“I want to thank my party Jubilee and…all members of the party across the country because I play very critical role when we go to the field,” said Mr Duale as quoted by the Nation.

He also thanked the IEBC for conducting what he termed as a free and fair election, saying Kenyans have spoken and their will should be respected.

This comes amid rigging claims by the opposition NASA coalition, who have accused the IEBC of favouring the ruling coalition.
