A school in the United Arab Emirates has welcomed a group of disadvantaged children from Nakuru to join them as part of a cultural exchange program.

The School of Research Science (SRS) has teamed up with Brarut Primary School, Nakuru which is an initiative set to bring ferry five students and two teachers to Dubai come the end of the month.

Emirati Maryam, one of the hosts in Dubai says that the whole team is excited and looking forward to experience the Kenyan culture as well as exvhange new ideas with the children and teachers.

“This is the first time the children will be visiting abroad, and we want to make it an unforgettable experience for them,” says Ms Maryam.

Among other things the school will also stand to benefit from computers and other learning material from the institution

She said she was surprised when she was told that the school in did not have computers – or electricity.

“The idea behind the project is to give our students a better understanding of what life is like in other countries,” said Frazer Angus, assistant head of primary at SRS.

SRS got in contact with Barut via the British Council in Kenya.

Parents and SRS staff are raising the Dh60,000 to make the trip possible and are appealing for sponsorship.
