Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni has warned the Mt Kenya region against renegading on its 2013 promise that it will back Deputy President William Ruto in 2022 if he supports Uhuru Kenyatta for two terms.
Kenyatta and Ruto apparently agreed to have a pact where the latter would rally his supporters behind Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017. Kenyatta would also do the same after he retires according to the agreement.
Kioni said betraying this pact will subject the Mt Kenya region to a backlash.
"It is sinful, deceitful and risky for the community," Kioni said during a debate on AM Live.
He added: "As a community we promised we will support the Deputy President, I know we will get a huge backlash if we abandon him."
Kioni said any constitutional amendments that change this position will not be backed by the Mt Kenya region.
