The body of a Dutch national was on Tuesday retrieved from a septic tank by police in Mombasa County, six months after he went missing.
The police led by Mombasa CID boss Pius Macharia said the body of the man identified as Mr Jacobus Van Der Goes, was recovered from a septic tank at his compound in Mombasa’s Nyali Estate.
Mr Macharia said the decomposing body of the man who went missing in January was found wrapped in a mattress.
The CID boss said a hammer and crowbar suspected to have been used to kill the deceased were also found in the septic tank.
“The body of the deceased who also holds a Kenyan passport was wrapped in a mattress. Murder weapons, a clobber and a hammer were found inside the septic tank,” said Mr Macharia.
Investigations in the disappearance of the deceased started in January after the man’s family in Holland traveled to Kenya and reported him missing.
Mr Macharia said three suspects, among them the man’s gardener who is serving a two and a half year sentence for stealing are in police custody over the murder.
The gardener was arrested a few weeks after the disappearance of Mr Goes, when the police who were trailing him found him using the deceased’s ATM cards.
Speaking to journalists in Nyali, Mr Macharia said further investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects who led the police to the man’s house and showed them where they had dumped the body.
“I cannot disclose where the suspects are but we arrested them in the course of the week. We arrested the two with the deceased’s motor vehicle somewhere in Mombasa,” said Mr Macharia.
Police believe the suspects might have colluded in killing the deceased.
The body was taken to Coast General Hospital morgue.
