Locals in Dwele area in Kisumu West Sub County now have a reason to smile after a local Non Governmental Organisation drilled for them a borehole water.
The residents especially women have endured years of walking long distances in search of water but that will now be a thing of the past.
OGRA Foundation Director Dr Hezron Otieno Makobewa who drilled the bore hole says the locals and mostly women and school children have been affected by the water problem.
“Some locals mostly women visited me in the office and narrated how they have longed to have water within their midst. The distance to the nearest water point is just unfortunate and that is why I agreed to come and help,” he said.
Speaking on Friday when launching the water project, Makobewa said lack of water exposes the community to several water borne diseases.
“It is expensive to treat water borne disease; in most cases we have seen mass deaths especially in cholera out breaks. It is important to prevent such occurrences and drilling water points is one sure preventive measure,” he said.
He said his NGO has for the past nine years been committed in drilling boreholes to help the communities and even schools in Nyanza.
Makobewa said he will continue with such initiatives to support the community.
“Across the county of Kisumu, OGRA has strived to drill water points in deserving areas. This is a service to the community,” he said.
