With the Muhoho Challenge gathering traction across the globe, one is left to wonder if his attendance at the Nandi county rally was his initiation into politics. Maybe President Uhuru wants to groom his son…to one day hold the top seat in the land.

We all know that every man wants his dynasty to live on. It is in our traditional stories. Our African cultural values emphasize the need for an heir. Traditionally, men wanted sons…but with modern attitudes and education, the ladies have shown that they too can take the reins from their fathers. For example, Susan Kihika, Rachael Shebesh…just to name a few.

It is with such a premise that one cannot ignore the rumors going around….not only about Muhoho but of Gideon Moi, son of former President Moi.

When Gideon stepped into the political stage, not too many local people could connect with him. He lacked the connection his dad had with the local mwananchi. Some say he become Senator due to his last name. But with time, he has grown to polish his Swahili and Kalenjin.  Some have even speculated he is being tutored, privately, on both languages. He has cemented his name in Baringo County politics.

Why?

So he can have a shot at the top seat come 2022.

It would be naïve to ignore the two gentlemen; Gideon and Muhoho. They are sons of great men in this land of ours. And both their fathers want them to succeed in politics. Which father would not?

The question is, will they manage to convince the local wananchi that dynasty politics can work?

Nowadays, wananchi have elected representatives based mostly on charisma...then merit. A famous last name can help, but it is not a guarantee.

I do believe charisma is more of a determining factor than merit in Kenyan politics.

I hope the two gentlemen can conjure such a skill with time.

They should also be ready for a bit of resentment from wananchi who will ask if it is the same families having a taste of the national pie.
