East African Breweries Limited (EABL) sponsored sorghum farmers from Western and Nyanza regions on a benchmarking field trip.Over 50 farmers from Kisumu, Migori, and Busia were selected to represent their counties in the event. The trip was aimed at establishing best practices in sorghum farming. “We were trained on various methods of growing sorghum to achieve high yields during the trip. The skills we got will help us train other farmers to ensure they earn good money from their farming,” said Vincent Oduor, one of the farmers. He said that the decline in production of sorghum is due to lack of skills which will help farmers grow the crop using improved methods. He, however, expressed optimism that the trip will help them boost the production. The growers were hosted on farms in Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties. This comes ahead of the reopening of the Kenya Breweries Limited plant in Kisumu. The brewer is set to recruit 15, 000 farmers to supply sorghum to the Kisumu plant.
