East Africa Community (EAC) countries are poised to ensure that the sale and consumption of counterfeit goods is a thing of the past.
According to the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign affairs Ababu Namwamba, the member state have set up a committee to deal with the importation and sale of counterfeit goods.
"The committee is mandated to help member countries deal with those involved in this illegal business. We want our citizens to get quality and not quantity goods," said Namwamba during the official opening of the Uganda cross-border investment and trade exhibition in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
He also said that the sale and consumption of counterfeit goods will be fought if member countries trade with each other."If member countries trade with each other it will be easier for them to know genuine and fake goods in the market," added the Foreign affairs Chief Administrative Secretary.
He reiterated Kenya’s commitment of ensuring that all movement and trade barriers are removed between EAC countries.
"Our aim is to ensure that member states conduct their businesses without any hindrances. "Why should trade between Kenya and Pakistan increase while that of Kenya and Uganda reduce. Let us support each other since it will improve the economy of member states," said the former Labour party leader.
