Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, whose name appears in the ‘list of shame’ presented to the IEBC has dared the electoral body to bar him from defending his seat.
According to KNA, Nathif claims that the EACC is being used by his opponents to ruin his political career.
EACC published 106 names of candidates for various elective positions who have integrity issues which if proved could see thembarred from contesting in the August 8 polls.
“The EACC report was sponsored by politicians in the national government who wanted to soil the track records of some governors in order to earn political mileage,” Jama said.
“It has come to my attention that EACC has given a document to IEBC with my name claiming that I have got issues with integrity. They are playing politics because 3 weeks ago I got my letter of clearance from the same agency,” he added.
He hit out at the anti-graft agency saying ‘his opponents are using it to discredit him.
Nathif has a pending case at a Garissa court where he is accused of abuse of office, willful failure to comply with procurement procedures in leasing ambulances at a cost of Sh70 million from E-plus, a subsidiary of Kenya Red Cross.
The governor said that the commission was trying to play politics with issues of integrity in order to lock out certain politicians adding that ‘the rule of law must prevail including one being presumed innocent until proven guilty.
