Ethics and Anti-graft commission has revealed that most of the recorded cases of corruption and bribery claims involve county officials.
Speaking on Tuesday, EACC Deputy Secretary Michael Mubea said that among the 800 individuals arrested by the commission over corruption, a bigger percentage comprise of county government staff.
“County governments need to fight this emerging vice to avoid losing public funds at the hands of few individuals,” Mubea stated.
The EACC official further issued that Kenyans lose a lot of funds through graft that is fast rising at the county procurement departments, which is closely followed by County Public Service Boards and then the finance departments.
“Some procurement officials evidently inflate prices and quotations, while others demand bribes to offer jobs or services,” Mubea disclosed.
He, however, says he is optimistic hopes their their ongoing seminars with county staff will identify major areas prone to corruption and make the necessary adjustments.
