Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Nzoia Sugar Company managing director, Godfrey Wanyonyi over graft claims.
Wanyonyi was arrested on Thursday in Nairobi and taken to the Commission's headquarters for questioning over accusations leveled against him and other senior managers at the company.
The anti-graft agency confirmed the arrest of Mr Wanyonyi.
EACC spokesperson Yassin Aila said Wanyonyi and other six senior managers from the company are accused of misusing funds at the institution.
The MD was later transferred to Bungoma where he and other officers will appear in court to answer to various charges of propagating graft.
"He and six other managers within the Finance department will be charged with various offenses including abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of property, forgery and violation of public finance regulations,” said Aila, as quoted by the Standard.
The arrest of Wanyonyi comes at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed retired Anglican Bishop Eliud Wabukala to take over the leadership of the Commission.
Wabukala has committed to restore sanity in the anti-graft body within his term in office.
The suspects will be arraigned in court over abuse of office.
