[Photo|hivisasa]The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is devolving from the national level to the counties a working committee to address issues of corruption and cartels in the transport sector.EACC Director, Preventive Services Vincent Okong’o said on Wednesday that the Commission has received numerous complaints of corruption and unethical malpractices in the sector.“Every day the Commission is receiving written and verbal complaints from the public concerning traffic officers demanding for bribes on the road,” he said.Okong’o said the Commission formed a working committee on ethics and integrity in the road transport sector way back in 2014 to guide the process of addressing the complaints.He said the committee has devolved its functions to eradicate corruption in the sector within the counties.Speaking during a consultative forum in Kisumu on ethics and integrity in the road transport, Okong’o called for a concerted effort to uproot corruption in the sector.He said that transport sector has the capability of creating massive employment among Kenyans if well driven.“This sector is very key to the economy of the country and it must be salvaged before it is too late,” he said. Okong’o said the sector is slowly deteriorating as a result of unethical practices that tend to weigh down its growth.
