Corruption and nepotism are some of the vices at the Kisii County Government.
This statement is informed by the investigation being carried on at the county’s headquarters by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s officers.
Graft has been rampant in the Kenyan system of governance even after decentralization of power to devolved counties across the entire nation.
The commission said, “Senior county government officials have been arm-twisting the county Public Service Board to irregularly people.”
On Friday the commission’s investigating officers stormed the County Public Service Board (CPSB) offices located at Mwalimu Hotel and impounded computers along with other documents that they said would help them in the investigation.
Confirming the search, EACC’s South Nyanza region deputy director Abraham Kemboi said that they will unearth everything that doesn’t contrary to the law.
“This is a unique case but is no different from the traditional corruption. The law is against nepotism and corruption. Therefore, we will make sure that people understand the cost of nepotism and bribery,” said Kemboi.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the investigating officers, who said that he was not allowed to speak to the media, said that key positions of director and their deputies were allocated for relatives.
“It is against the massive bribery in the manner in which the county government conducts its recruitment process that the EACC has decided to investigate Kisii County with the aim of unearthing the decay within the county administration, said the investigating officer.
“Investigating officers made an impromptu search at the PSCB officials and confiscated computers to help investigations,” he added.
The commission is expected to further conduct an employment audit to establish the transspecies in its recruitment system since the year 2014.
