The Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr Cleopa Mailu and his Permanent Secretary Dr Nicholas Muraguri have been summoned by the Ethics and Ant-Corruption Commission (EACC) to answer charges on the Afya House graft case where Sh5bn allegedly was embezzled.
According to the Nation, EACC Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo asked them to avail themselves before the commission and shed light on the events that led to the alleged loss of Sh5bn in the ministry.
Dr Mailu is expected on Thursday at 9am while Dr Muraguri will appear before the commission on Wednesday at 9am.
"We expect the Health Ministry officials to shed light on the graft charge against them. Dr Muraguri (PS) will appear before EACC on Wednesday while Dr Mailu is expected on Thursday at 9am. We are also collecting statements from possible witnesses to the case," said Waqo.
Other Health officials are also expected to appear before the commission.
They include Head of Finance unit Peter Odundo, Head of Procurement Peter Mwangi, Kenya Medical Supplies Authority CEO John Munyu, former Head of Procurement Ephantus Thigah and former Head of Accounts Peter Macharia.
