The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is set to open a new office in Nakuru County as a means to decentralise its services and bolster the war on economic crimes at the county level.
The anti-graft agency through its spokesman Yasin Amoro said in a statement that the offices would be complete by early next year.
“The new offices will be well equipped to handle our key services, which include investigations, assets recovery, prosecution as well as other aspects available at the agency’s headquarters at the Integrity Centre,” said Amaro.
He said the agency was keen to combat corruption at the count level, adding that the EACC had appointed representatives in regions where it was yet to open offices.
In February 2013, EACC opened a regional office in Eldoret bringing to five its liaison centres after Nyeri, Kisumu, Mombasa and Garrissa.
“We look forward to establishing more corruption-free institutions in the country to offer quality services similar to the ones we provide at our headquarters in Nairobi,” Amaro said.
This comes as the anti-graft body plans to set up well equipped offices in all 47 counties to boost the war on graft in the country and combat corruption at the county levels.
Amaro issued a stern warning to corrupt individuals, particularly public service officials, saying they had no place in the country.
He reiterated that both the giver and the taker of a bribe will be arrested, adding that arresting only public servants allows corrupt citizens to propagate the vice.
Last month, EACC detectives conducted a sting operation at various traffic check points in Nakuru and intercepted 10 traffic officers for allegedly soliciting bribes from motorists.
The officers had planted secret cameras at Eveready, Kiti and Shiners checkpoints, which captured the suspects receiving bribes from as little as Sh50 to Sh1,000 from motorists.
The officers are, however, yet to be charged in court.
