East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua and two other people have today been arraigned and charged in court with robbery with violence and assault.
Mbugua, alongside Antony Otieno Omboko alias Jamal and Benjamin Odhiambo were charged with allegedly robbing and assaulting former NCBDA chairman Timothy Muriuki at a city hotel on April 30, 2018.
Appearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku on Wednesday, Mbugua and the two others pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution led by Solomon Naulikha did not oppose their application to be released on bond but asked the court to issue them with harsh bond terms.
The prosecution also asked the court to issue a warrant of arrest against five other suspects who are still at large.
The court will make a ruling at 2 PM today on whether to release the accused persons on bond.
Mbugua was arrested on Thursday and spend the night at Central Police station.Last week, police had put a Sh500,000 bounty on the five suspects linked to the assault of the former NCBDA chairman.
