Many politicians have come a long way to the current positions they open in society. Here are some of the early careers of popular Gusii politicians.
1. James Ongwae
He was born in Mwamonari location, Marani District, Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County in 1952. He is a Kenyan politician and currently the Governor of Kisii County.
Before venturing into politics James Ongwae joined the Public Service as a District Officer rising through the ranks to serve in various activities including Immigration officer, Management Analyst, Director of Civil Service Reform Program, Director of Personnel Management in the office of the President, Secretary for the Teachers Service Commission and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.
2. Sam Ongeri
Sam Ongeri is currently the Senator of Kisii County after succeeding Chris Obure. Prior to join politics he served as the Council Chairman of the University of Nairobi, Kenya permanent representative of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and was a lecturer/Professor in the University of Nairobi.
3. Chris Obure
He was born on September 29, 1943. He is the outgoing senator of Kisii County. Chris Obure worked for Kenya Breweries Limited( now East Africa Breweries) as the company secretary.
4. Janet Ongera
Janet Ongera is the women representative of Kisii County.
Before joining politics she worked in Kenya Airports Authority from 1993 to 1998 as the corporation Secretary and as the Deputy Manager Director/ Corporation Secretary.
She has also served as Registrar of titles in the Ministry of lands and as a state counsel in the Attorney General chambers.
5. Zadoc Ogutu
Zadoc Ogutu served as the WLE focal region manager for the Nile and East Africa (NBEA), before joining politics. He is now the Member of Parliament of Bomachoge Borabu
