Many people assume that most politicians kick-started their careers with politics but that is not the case as many politicians go through struggle before becoming who they are today. Many politicians from Nairobi have engaged in various activities before venturing into politics. Below are some of the early careers of popular Nairobi politicians.

1. Esther Passaris

She is the Nairobi County women representative and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement. She became the Nairobi County women representative after defeating Jubilee's Rachael Shebesh. Passaris was once model as she has been a runner-up in Miss Kenya contest. She was also the CEO and founder of 'one in a million ' campaign which was operating under driving Kenya Foundation, a non profit charitable organization, aimed at fighting problems in Kenya such as poverty and unemployment, and promoting urban and rural development.

2. Charles Njuguna

Charles Njuguna famously known as Jaguar is the current Member of Parliament of Starehe Constituency. Before venturing into politics Jaguar was a musician producing hits that dominated the Kenyan music industry. He has also served as a board member of NACADA

3. Johnson Sakaja

He is the Senator of Nairobi County. Sakaja landed his first job at the age of 19 years at Pricewatercoopers(PWC) though he lost the job a year later and worked at a cyber cafe with his aunt and in the process started producing music. During his time in campus, he set up various businesses and ended setting up a financial consultancy firm, Arthur Johnson consultants during his fourth year in campus.

4. Evans Kidero

The outgoing Nairobi Governor who was succeeded by Mike Sonko served as the Mumias Sugar Company Chief Executive Officer CEO for eight years before resigning in 2012 to pursue a career in politics.

5. Simba Arati

He is a Kenyan politician and a member of Parliament representing Dagoretti North Constituency. Simba Arati served as the Managing Director at Aipa Safaris limited from 2004-2007 before venturing into politics.
