Morocco lost both of their opening games on the bounce failing to score a goal in the two matches.

They began the tournament on the wrong foot after losing 1-0 in the opening match to Asian minnows Iran.

Their loss to Portugal via the same scoreline means they will play the third match against Spain as outsiders with no chance whatsoever of making it through regardless of how many goals they score.

Morocco showed the intent and desire to win the match from the go as in their constant pressing that troubled the Portuguese center-backs.

It was Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal however that made all the difference when he escaped his marker to head home his fourth goal in just two matches in the fifth minute.

Dutch-born winger Hakim Ziyech did all he could to keep Morocco in the competition but he was unable to find the back of the net as the north Africans toiled to secure a point late on.

Morocco possessed and surprisingly dominated the proceedings for prolonged periods of the game but their lack of experience means they do not make it out of their group.
