Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi has claimed that there is poor education performance in the county because young boys and girls have dropped school to marry and get married.
The MP said local government officers should stop defending young people when they drop school to start families in villages.
“We have witnessed poor education in the region because young people who should be pushed to stay in school have been allowed to engage in early marriages.
It is time for local government officers such as chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials to ensure no child drops school to marry and get married,” she noted.
She called on parents to stop neglecting their parental responsibilities and condone their children to drop school.
"If parents didn’t go to school why should they also allow their children stay at home instead of them being in school? The future of our kids will be good if they get proper education failure to which the society will have a higher number of criminals.
The government is offering free day primary and secondary education and parents should ensure children are enrolled in school,” she added.
