"There is a lot of child labour cases in Kisumu county.Girls no longer access education because they are forced into early marriage," said Kilimo.

However urged the local leaders to sensitise communities that live in the county that practise FGM and its dangers.

"MCAs I urge you to share with the communities that practise FGM because they move with their culture. It is high time they abandon it," said the former minister.

She added: "Kisumu people do not practise FGM. I believe it will the first county in Kenya where there will be zero tolerance to FGM."

Kilimo urged the communities practising FGM to follow the trend and that it is illegal to circumcise girls.
