The 35 pupils and two teachers however escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, Chuka/Igambang'ombe deputy police boss James Kilonzo said that the accident occurred after the driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision with two incoming lorries that had taken the two lanes of the road near the Ruguri bridge along the Meru-Embu road.

The bus then veered into a ditch a ditch by the roadside in the early morning incidence.

“The driver was forced out of the road to avoid a head-on collision with two the lorries,” said Mr Kilonzo.

An eyewitness stated that there was a big bang that was accompanied by screaming of the pupils during the accident and when he arrived at the scene, he helped pull the passengers out.

“We broke the windscreen and helped them out,” he said.

The pupils have since used another vehicle to the national event.
