Diabetes is a group of metabolic disease whereby a person has high blood sugar due to inability of the pancreas to produce adequate insulin.
There are two types which include Type 1 and 2 diabetes . Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system attacks the beta cells of the pancreas whereas Type 2diabetes occurs when the pancreas fails to produce hormone insulin
According to Peggy Pletcher, MS, RD, LD, CDE here are clues for detecting diabetes
Loss of weight
Unexplained weight loss is a symptom that needs attention. It results from pancreas defect, inability to produce adequate insulin. Loss of weight can also be as result of peptic ulcers, tuberculosis and among others. Weight loss is an early sign of diabetes.
Severe thirst
Severe thirst is an early sign of diabetes that needs attention as well. It is associated with dry mouth and throat. Thirst is due to loss of fliuds during urine. Don't ignore this condition, see the doctor for checkups
Feeling tired
Tiredness is an early sign of diabetes (type 2). Tiredness can be brought about lacking exercises hence causing accumulation of lactic acid which cause fatigue. Or inability of pancreas to metabolize substances.
Wounds that do not heal faster
Delayed wound healing is a problem that you should pay attention to. It is a sign that you have fallen victim to diabetes. low wound healing can also be as a result of Rheumatoid arthritis, vascular diseases and zinc deficiency.
