Police in Nairobi have raised concern on the the rising number of home-made guns used to commit violent crimes.
From the start of June, there have been over 15 cases of recovered home-made pistols with about 8 seized from criminals in Kayole and Eastleigh alone.
Last month, police sought the public's help by asking citizens to volunteer information which would lead to the arrest of those manufacturing the guns.
After several arrests in Huruma, Dandora and Mihango, police have been putting together details of the 'notorious' manufacturer and National Police Service Spokesperson George Kinoti has now said they are closing in on arresting the culprit.
“Several criminals have been arrested with them (homemade guns) and they are helping us in our crackdown on the manufacturers and the suppliers,” Kinoti said on Tuesday.
He revealed that the recovered guns could fire and kill and so police are treating them as illegal guns.
“The manufacturers are now learning more through the advanced technology,” Kinoti said in an interview.
