Twelve people who are accused of taking part in riots between hawkers and shop owners in Eastleigh were on Monday arraigned in court.
The 12 individual were charged with creating the disturbance when they appeared before chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo for the offence allegedly committed on September 3, 2016.
According to the prosecution, the accused persons created disturbance in Eastleigh's 1st Avenue by blocking roads with stones, tyres, lighting bonfires and throwing stones at police officers engaged on official duties.
They pleaded guilty to the charges and consequently sentenced to 30 days in jail or pay a fine of Sh5, 000.
Hawkers and mall owners in Eastleigh have been involved in battles after the latter accused the former of interfering with their business space.
The Nairobi County government intervened by demolishing stalls by hawkers, something that resulted in more riots.
