Hawkers from Eastleigh have moved to court in an attempt to bar the Nairobi County Government from kicking them out of the area.
According to the Eastleigh Hawkers Association, the county government should provide them with a alternative space before they can move.
They have argued that their lives will be negatively affected if kicked out because their livelihood depends on the area.
The hawkers claim that they were legally operating in Eastleigh contrary claims that they were imposters."
The petitioners have been carrying on business as hawkers in the designated area for a long time with the consent and approval of the Nairobi County Government,” they stated.
In a petition filed before High Court Judge George Onguto, the hawkers claim that since early this month, they have not been able to operate their businesses due to lack of trading space.
Onguto however declined to issue them with temporary orders and instead directed them to serve the Nairobi County Government and the matter be mentioned on Wednesday next week for further directions.
