Speaking during their monthly meeting at Kaloleni primary in Nakuru town, the ECD teachers’ association chairperson Mary Wambui said ECD teachers have been neglected by the government and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) despite their critical contribution.

"Just like our colleagues in primary and secondary we also need to be respected by being employed on permanent basis" said Wambui.

She said just like their colleague in primary schools, many Kenyans have passed through their hands and it is a high time to be recognised.

Association secretary Jane Maingi said they have suffered for too long working under the boards that disrespect them by paying them peanuts. She said it is embarrassing to pay a teacher Sh 2,500 per month in nursery school while those primary and secondary earn huge salaries yet they are doing the same job.
