The governor observed that the new structure will ensure enhanced service delivery and accountability among some of the teachers who had been defying guidelines from administrators of schools where their ECDE centres are established.

"There must be some order in how education especially at the early and very important stages is imparted, head teachers are well positioned to oversee ECDE teaching in their schools and the teachers in this department need to work with them and be accountable," said Mandago.

He was categorical that those who are not ready to toe the line should prepare to ship out because their resistance signifies that they have not been efficient in delivering services in the ECDE department that is under the management of county governments.

"There have been numerous cases of absenteeism reported on the side of the teachers and we need to tame this trend that is compromising the quality of education for our children," he added.

Mandago, who was speaking when delivering Sh54 million cheques for construction of ECDE centres in all the 30 wards in Uasin Gishu said the new directive was also important in rooting out unnecessary conflict on how primary schools are managed.

“These ECDE teachers should reciprocate to what we are doing to them as a county government, they used to earn a meagre Sh2000 per month when under the parents and teachers' association structure but now we are paying them Sh10,000 which should be a motivation for them to give even more," the governor said.

Mandago was appalled that the teachers were defying instructions from their respective school heads, on grounds that they are under county governments and not the Teachers Service Commission (TSC.)

He claimed that some ECDE teachers were not reporting to their respective work station even for a week without any justified reasons thereby jeopardizing the learning programmes of the pupils.
