Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has pledged to steer the ministry to success.

Speaking during his official take over of the docket from his successor Hassan Wario on Tuesday, Echesa claimed to have spotted the problems ailing the ministry.

He noted that the existence of cartels in different sections of the department was the main reason behind the ministry's inability to deliver in the recent past, vowing to eradicate the menace. 

''It has come to my attention that the ministry is full of cartels who are out to sabotage our operations and benefit from the funds allocated to the docket. They should know that their time is up,'' said the CS.

He also promised to clear the ministry of incompetent officials.

Echesa called for unity and cooperation from his new juniors, threatening to sack any individual found culpable of any action probable to derail the ministry from achieving its goals.

''I am putting all non-performing officials on notice. Any official who will be found engaging in any unethical activity will be sent home,'' he added.

On his side, Wario defended himself over allegations of poor performance, claiming that he has notable achievements to his name.

''We achieved alot during my tenure and I am leaving you with a very able team with which you can achieve even more,'' said Wario
