A Thika lawyer Jackson Muturi has urged Kiambu County government to conduct civic education on matters of justice and legal affairs.

Jackson Muturi said residents at times fear testifying in court when called upon after witnessing incidents due to lack of civic education on justice and legal affairs.

“Because of lack of information to locals, civic education will help unaware persons to know procedures to be followed when someone finds himself or herself in such situations,” he said on Friday.

Muturi said people should be sensitised on how to handle such cases when they fall victims because other people fear facing even the authorities.

The lawyer said sometimes, witnesses fear testifying in court adding that civic education will help them to know that they are safe while giving testimonies.

He challenged the community to learn how to approach the right people when they are in such cases to allow justice to prevail.

Muturi said police officers at times are to blame because the procedures they follow are too expensive and bureaucratic making the victims to lose hope.

He urged the police to treat people fairly when they need their help because residents depend on them instead of frustrating them hence ending up losing hope.
