Kisii County Education Board Chairman Henry Nyabuto has raised alarm over increased establishment of private learning institution in Kisii
Onderi said the high number of schools had brought about poor performance among pupils and students.
“The rate at which private schools are being set up in Kisii region is high. Most pupils and students are performing poor because they keep on changing schools per term making it hard for them to grasp the syllabus,” he said.
He said that most schools are being started as business entities to make profit for owners from the money pupils and students pay as school fees.
“Business people who are not even teachers are setting up schools in the region. We are not going to accept few greedy individuals to put up schools which will employ unqualified teachers. The education board will regulate the number of schools in the county and any school which will not comply with the education requirement will be closed down,” said Onderi.
He challenged parents to ensure that there children are enrolled in public schools because private schools may be closed anytime.
Onderi was speaking at Hema Secondary school on Friday.
