Speaking to the press in her county headquarters office on Monday, Kere noted that most high school students have resorted to drinking cheap alcohol in popular joints.

The county official cited Kona Legio, Manyatta, Carwash, Obunga and Nyalenda areas as popular alcohol consumption joints.

She told the press that she has written to the National Alcohol and Drugs body, NACADA to investigate areas notorious for alcohol consumption and effect immediate closure.

She said that a similar exercise had been conducted in Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu County, and asked NACADA chairman John Mututho to effect the same in Kisumu.

“We need to ensure that sanity prevails in our youth so that they can engage in activities that build them rather than resorting to useless activities such as unguided alcoholism.

“My office has already written to NACADA and we expect that the highlighted areas will be closed down,” she said.

Kere added that the police in Kisumu have already launched a manhunt for businessmen who engage in such activities.
