The Nakuru County Director for Education Ms Millicent Yugi has promised to look into the issue of lack of furniture at the Nakuru Public Library.
Speaking to the library representatives who had paid her a courtesy call in her office at Menengai Hall, Ms Yugi said that although the Library is under the national government, she will look into the issue since they were serving the same public.
“You understand that National Libraries have not been devolved. However, since this facility is serving Nakuru County residents we can chip in and assist in one way or the other. I have been to the Library and was touched by the plight of the kids doing the studies on the floor,” said Yugi.
At the same time, Ms Yugi challenged librarians to come up with ways in which they can partner to grow the reading culture among Nakuru residents.
“You should organise to have a book fair in every Sub-county in Nakuru. My department will take care of the logistics as you provide the personnel and the reading material,” requested Yugi.
One of the library representatives Joseck Kweya promised to raise the issue with the librarian in charge to organise a book fair for each of the eleven sub-counties in Nakuru.
