Kisii county director of education William Sugut has raised concerns over the increased cases of teachers raping girls.
Sugut said the judiciary should stop being too lenient on such teachers once they are arraigned in court.
“It is worrying that male teachers have turned against girls raping them. I wish to call upon the Judiciary to ensure teachers who have turned to be ‘hynas’ are sent to jail for life,” he said.
Sugut warned parents and local government officers against defending teachers who have raped minors in the society.
“Parents should not accept fines and gifts from rapists after such incidents take place. Defilement is illegal and punishable by law,” he said.
The education director asked school heads not to accomodate teachers who are arrested defiling minors.
He promised that moral behaviours of current teachers will be scrutinized to ensure those with bad records are blacklisted.
