Young people have been advised to prioritize education while schooling so that they can excel academically.
Speaking at during Elgonview College's first graduation ceremony at Gusii Stadium, Bugema University Vice Chancellor Prof. Patrick Manu challenged the youth to desist from peer groups that can mislead them.
Prof. Manu said education is the major weapon against poverty, and therefore urged youths to take it seriously and concentrate on positive things in order to get empowered economically.
"Education is the catalyst against poverty, and therefore I urge the youth to take it seriously," he advised.
The Professor guided the graduands to use the knowledge they have attained to initiate projects that can enable thrive, instead of waiting for formal employment.
"Education empowers people to be self-reliant and therefore, I advice the graduands to never rely only on looking for a job but be job givers through own imitates," reiterated Prof. Manu.
He added, "However, I ask you to be patient while looking for a job, and take any job you get first."
The Uganda-based Varsity Vice Chancellor, who was also the chief guest in the graduation ceremony, urged parents to invest education in their children so that they can be knowledgeable and know how to confront life issues.
The Elgonview college principal Elijah Bosire, challenged County governments to support learners in higher learning institutions with the bursary funds so that they can enroll their career.
“A good number of students in our college hail from vulnerable backgrounds and therefore, we ask the county governments to support them financially so that they can achieve their dream,” appealed Bosire.
A total of 150 students graduated.
