The Ministry of Education has moved to develop synergy among government education sector players to create greater efficiency in the sector.

Principal Secretary in the ministry Dr Belio Kipsang said that key players in the education sector must pull together in their mandate to offer quality services to the people.

“Field education officers, be it those from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or from the Ministry of Education must work together to upscale education standards in the country,” he said.

Dr Kipsang said disjointed approaches by the field education officers are now being exploited by schools to undermine the implementation of policy guidelines and the cardinal goal of providing quality education.

He urged County Education Boards to foster collaborations and generation of joint work plans for effective service delivery.

Speaking in Kisumu on Monday during a retreat for government education officers across the country, Dr Kipsang in a speech read on his behalf by the Director General of Education Leah Rotich said collaboration and consultation should be encouraged when it comes to recruitment, deployment and transfer of teachers within the counties.

TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia who was present hailed the synergy development, noting that currently the sector is in shambles with field officers pulling in different directions.

Macharia said the ministry and TSC are at the apex and the county education officers must work together for the betterment of education.

She said that it is unfortunate that the two arms of education carry out activities in the counties without collaborating or complementing each other.

“In some cases there is no vehicle for a TSC official yet education ministry officials have a vehicle and cannot give a helping hand," she said.
