Uasin Gishu County Director of Education (CDE) Nicodemus Anyang has applauded the new policy by the national government for directly issuing textbooks to schools.

He said a lot of money was embezzled by principals without purchasing books.

“It was sad that despite the government through the Ministry of Education allocating a lot of money to  for  principals to buy book most students did not have them due to corruption leading to poor results but now our students will get their books at ease because they are given free of charge,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.

“The students to book ratio in public schools in Uasin Gishu was 1:10 and the best was 1:3 but now after the government distributing books it will now be 1:1. Teachers should ensure the students use the books appropriately since they will use it until they finish form four,” he added.

He revealed that the government has started giving books to all public schools in the county.

Anyang called upon parents to use the money they were supposed to buy books with for their children for purchasing academic materials for their children which will improve their performance.
